Terry’s Fabrics, one of the UK’s top blinds and homeware retailers are benefiting from the surge of customers choosing the DIY option when approaching their interior design, as people begin moving away from the idea of hiring in interior design professionals to help redesign or renovate their homes.
Only last year, it was common to witness middle income homeowners employing interior design professionals, who would help plan, prepare and source materials for large renovation projects. However, since the recession hit, the trend has been customers moving away from employing such professionals, and taking the advice of in-store interior designers within the Terry’s Fabrics stores, saving money and time in the process.
Terry’s Fabrics do not see the trend slowing down, as the threat of being made redundant remains a serious concern for large sections of the UK population. Unnecessary spend on interior design services has clearly been one of the costs that many households have chosen to cut back on. However, the recession does not necessarily mean that UK households need to compromise the quality of their interior design, although their approach may require more DIY input.
