Terrys Fabrics, a leading UK supplier of curtains, blinds and curtain poles has published the results of a survey undertaken in their 2 stores.
Asking 300 customers, 47% of customers reported that they were doing more DIY sewing projects in the home in comparison to this period in 2008. More than half of the respondents reported that they used their sewing skills to make new cushions and curtains, whereas forty five percent claimed to have taken on more courageous DIY tasks, such as creating quilt covers and sofa throws.
Almost 1 in three customers noted that they would be more inclined to fix and repair furnishings in the home in comparison to early 2008, a time when going out and replacing damaged items when new replacements was common place, even if existing furnishings showed only the smallest wear and tear signs. Now however, it is ladies between the age of forty and fifty five who are most inclined to bring out the sewing kits and machines.
With the current UK economic climate, this is a trend which is set to continue in the foreseeable future.
