Thanks to the recent opening of the newest sweet shop in town, Candy Bear Lane, is ringing up fans along with sales. Families are saying that this store is a great addition to Main Street. They are enjoying having a place they can use to entice their children to get their chores done, get good grades and reward good behavior. Kids are saving their allowance, borrowing from their lunch money and scouring the couch cushions for loose change just so they can make another trip into the colorful happy place.
Owner Lisa Koma says that she’s seen Kennedy half dollars and Susan B Anthony dollar coins come across her counter; further evidence that Candy Bear Lane is making kids reach into their own cash stash to buy their favorites. Last Friday, 41 seventh graders from St. Joseph’s School stopped in on their way home from school and bought everything from bottles of Orange Crush to Lemonheads.
What you remember about penny candy is still true—plenty of choices to pick from like Tootsie Rolls, Bit O Honey and Jolly Ranchers and white paper sacks to take them all home in. Only now, penny candy is ten penny candy. As some things change, many things remain the same @ Candy Bear Lane where you can still pick up some Beeman’s Gum, flying saucer candies, marsh mellow ice cream cones, Charleston Chews, Razzles, MaryJanes, bulleyes and salt water taffy just to name few.
In addition to hundreds of candy varieties, the store is a place to create & dress your own stuffed animals, custom fill your own Candy Bear—the store’s signature item which is a miniature candy filled bear—or perfect the art of the Candy Art Pucker Powder Stick--all the while reliving your own childhood memories. The Party Place @ Candy Bear Lane is located on the 2nd floor of the candy store and is complete with tables, chairs and wall murals that resemble the Candyland board game making it the perfect place for kid’s parties.
Creator and Owner Lisa Koma has been in the retail business for over 30 years. She graduated from Downers Grove North High School and had been retailing ever since.
