Rebus Render Farm
1) Adoption of green energy – The company has totally switched to green power, provided by Naturstrom AG, Germany’s first independent provider of 100% renewable energy. RebusFarm energy source consists of the following mix: 58% water, 41.5% wind, and 0.5% sun, while the average energy mix used by a typical render farm consists of: 47% carbon, 27% atomic energy, 14% gas or oil, and only 12% green energy.
2) Creation of the free Farminizer software – The Rebus Farminizer is a free download which allows 3D developers to render their work in a seamless way with just a mouse click. Developers can start a render job from inside their favorite 3D software and have the rendered frames saved to a local folder. When running on Windows the Farminizer supports 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, Softimage XSI, Maya 3D, Lightwave 3D and Modo. Currently Maxwell Render is supported in beta mode. When running on the Mac the Farminizer supports Cinema 4D, Maya 3D, Lightwave 3D, and Modo. Support for Maxwell Render is also in beta mode. Needless to say, if a developer’s 3D software of choice isn’t supported by the Farminizer they can still render it in the usual way.
3) Addition of more processing power – Currently Rebus Farm relies on 140 Intel XEON E5420 and 112 Intel Q6600 processors, all with 64bit OS and 8GB of RAM. Combined processing power amounts to 2500GHZ.
4) Addition of a staggered discount scheme – Basically, the more clients render the less they pay per GHZ. Clients can save from 10% to 60% in their render job.
5) Reorganization of website – Rebus Render Farm website has been totally revamped in order to make things easier for the 3D community. The site features video tutorials for the use of the Farminizer as well as a costs calculator and other utilities for 3D developers.
