Modelling isn’t just for girls, and with more and more male model success stories hitting the headlines it is easy to see why an increasing number of men are giving it a go.
Peter Andre recently signed a £500,000 deal to be the new face of fashion label Christian Audigier, but what about the boy next door - does he really have a chance of getting lucky?
Back in 2006, Sean O’Pry was just like any other 17-year-old. Then he was discovered by a modelling agency, and three years later he is considered by many industry insiders to be the world’s most successful male model, with 2009 campaigns for Joop, H&M and Lacoste.
Sean has previously appeared in advertising campaigns and editorials for Calvin Klein, Giorgio Armani, Dolce & Gabbana and many more.
His runway credentials include opening Versace, Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy and Salvatore Ferragamo, and closing Moschino, Trussardi and Zegna.
“Modelling isn’t like it is on TV,” Sean points out. “TV makes it look so cheesy. You don't just stand in front of the camera. You do get to interpret the clothes, and you actually get to act a little bit, which is fun."
Sean’s success proves that modelling opportunities are out there for both males and females if you have the right look and attitude.
Andrew Simmons of the UK’s leading model employment agency, Models Direct, believes that male models have every chance of success. “Modelling opportunities are by no means limited women. We have a huge number of clients approaching us for male models, and we’re happy to give them what they are looking for!”
Twenty-four year old Models Direct success story Chris Kingdom from Leytonstone, London, is a great example of one such model. He speaks enthusiastically about his most recent assignment with the agency. “It was a fun couple of days! It was nice to be working for a good company and I look forward to getting more work from Models Direct.”
