Less the 24 hours later the Rangers made another big splash by add veteran goal scorer Marian Gaborik to a five-year contract. This signing should help the Ranger’s previous seasons scoring issues and hopefully be that key addition that will propel them to the next level and back in the Stanley Cup hunt.

In addition to the big-name signing of Gaborik, Donald Brashear, Brian Boyle, Ales Kotalik, Enver Lisin, and, Vaclav Prospal, are other key additions to the team whether it came via free agency or trade. With the exception of Brashear, who was signed as some extra muscle and an on ice enforcer, all of acquisitions should greatly help jump-start the Rangers offense and provide a strong supporting cast around the core players in Drury, Dubinsky, Higgins, Avery, Gaborik, and Callahan.

The New York Rangers will open the 2009-10 season with back-to-back games beginning on Friday, October 2, as they hit the road to face Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins.
