The Palm Pre's Most Functional Features

A quick review of the most functional parts of the Palm Pre

Sept. 9, 2009 - PRLog -- Most cell phone reviews give you the details of every inch of the phone.  We appreciate those, and sometimes want to read them.  This review is meant to quickly provide you with the most functional parts of the Palm Pre – in our opinion.  The bread and butter if you will.  So who are we?  Well, Cycled Cells (http://www.cycledcells.com) is an easy alternative to time consuming, risky and frustrating experiences associated with the typical online marketplace or classifieds. As a result, we spend hours reviewing and playing with cell phones.  Read on to hear about some of our favorite features you can enjoy with a Pre.

The touch screen/keyboard mix is very welcomed.  Not only are you able to quickly navigate with the screen, but you can actually type without making plenty of errors.  We know this isn’t true for everyone, but having a touchscreen for typing feels very inefficient to us.

The Operating System.  Oh, the operating system.  The WebOS that Palm has developed will – no doubt – change the way that we use cell phones.  While the OS is something that you can learn, it will take some getting used to.  But, once you are familiar with using it, the capabilities of this phone are incredible.  Not to mention the potential.

The size is a nice plus.  This is a phone that most certainly ‘fits’ in your hand.  The curves of the phone, and the small size make the phone almost nestle in.  It gives great significance to the company name: Palm.

Despite the smaller screen size, the web browser looks great and runs great, too.  You won’t be disappointed if this is a feature that you need.

We enjoyed the ease of the media applications, and their ability to sync with a computer.  Putting your iTunes songs on the Pre is simple and easy.  Playing these is also easy.  One feature we really liked was the Mass Storage feature, allowing you to use the phone to store large files.

Free Navigation!  What a novel idea!  That’s right, it comes standard on the Palm Pre, and we aren’t talking about Google Maps.  We are talking about turn-by-turn directions.

The camera is pretty impressive.  We saw the camera being used at a sporting event this past weekend, and it handled the movements and the poor lighting very well.

Bottom Line:  this phone is pretty incredible, but it may be ahead of its time.   We do think younger users will fully enjoy the phone, but the older users could be scared away due to the depth of ability that this phone has.  It really is incredible and the potential for development is great.
