PRLog - Sep. 9, 2009 - PERTH, Australia -- Popular culture history was made when Mattel Inc partnered with Kurv Magazine to celebrate the pop culture icons 50th anniversary by having Barbie enter the "Brave New World" and become the Guest Editor of Kurv. 018.
“...The Kurv team are proud to welcome Barbie to our magazine. In a world first, thanks to a partnership with Mattel, she will appear not just as a profiled personality but also as Guest Editor of Kurv018.
Just as the spirit of the Olympic games encourages athletes to strive for excellence in a spirit of goodwill and friendship, Kurv has challenged its designer and artists to expand their creativity in an arena dictated by Barbie's chic style. Barbie's unmistakable persona emanates from every page, filtered of course through the eyes of Kurv Magazine and friends.” Said Publisher and EIC Nicholas Sage.
Kim Kardashian plays Barbie in Kurv magazines cover photographic shoot by photographer Tony Duran, titled “ Kim & Barbie”.
Tony Duran comments on the shoots context. “...The idea behind the shoot was to capture the different characters of Barbie—western Barbie, Safari Barbie, etc. But I wanted the shoot to look like a timeless fashion shoot as opposed to a caricature -so for the most part we kept the clothing all in blacks and deep grays-very monochromatic. Kim’s hourglass figure was the basis of the story and different interpretations of her blonde hair showcased the character. We tended to go extreme with the hair to give it a bit of a push editorially, but keeping the classic side of the shoot shining through. We went with vintage pieces to authentically represent each character fashion wise...”
