Cost Comparison of Using Battery Operated Flameless Candles

Many people ask about the benefits of using flameless candles. One of the most asked questions – is there a cost comparison for the both types.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Sep 09, 2009 -
Well we can’t cover every shape and size of candle but we can bring you a small example of what could be saved by switching to battery operated candles.

Most battery candles use two AA or AAA batteries. The environmental argument can be addressed at another time. That argument is based on the cost of creating of real candles and wicks compared to one that can last forever. Wax is usually produced from petroleum and that process is obviously taking great resources from the planet. Battery candles are sometimes made of real wax, however the wax is only created once. The argument of course is the batteries. How much do they take to make and what about the disposal of them?

For now we shall look at the cost savings, in comparing real wax candles to battery operated candles.
We shall take two differing examples. Our prices are based on information from a high street retailer compared to batterycandles.co.uk prices for candles and batteries (Autumn 2009).

Our examples are:

5” Wax Pillar Candle
9” Wax Pillar Candle

Our examples take the following format. For the real candles a purchase is made, lit and disposed. The battery candles are bought, switched on, then batteries replaced. We shall base these over a few thousand hours. The below table has a denominator of 11250 hours burn time derived from 45x250 = 11250. This is just for ease of understanding.

(A) 5” Flameless (250 hours)
(B) Ikea 6” (45 hours)
(C) 9” Flameless (250 hours)
(D) Ikea 10” (90 Hours)

Initial Cost
(A)8.99
(B)1.89
(C)14.99
(D)2.24

Cost for 11250 hours Burn Time
(A) £30.80 (44 battery changes 2x 35p = 70p)
(B) £461.16 (244 Candles @ 1.89)
(C) £30.80 (44 battery changes 2x 35p = 70p)
(D) £277.76 (124 Candles @ 2.24)

Total Cost 11250 Hrs + Initial Purchase
(A)£39.79
(B)£463.05
(C)£45.79
(D)£280

So if you are looking to save money it seems battery operated candles are the way to go - see us at http://www.batterycandles.co.uk.
