A group of parents of preschool and kindergarten age children are working with Squaw Peak Traditional Academy to start a foreign language immersion program to begin in the fall of 2010 for kindergarteners and first graders, and to add one grade level to the program every year thereafter. Squaw Peak Traditional Academy is the kindergarten through 8th grade public school with neighborhood boundaries of 32nd Street on the west, 40th Street on the east, Northern Avenue on the north, and Indian School on the south. The school has a rigorous academic program with a structured environment in beautiful neighborhood location. In the foreign language immersion program, English speaking children will spend half of the day learning subjects in Spanish and half of the day learning subjects in English. This is a 50/50 model of language immersion. Children would not need to have any prior knowledge of Spanish to participate, and children from outside the school boundaries may enroll (through open enrollment).
