Indian power sector is buzzing with activity, thanks to a series of initiatives by the Government of India to deliver on its promise of Power for All by 2012. Programs like Rajiv Gramin Vidyudikarana Yojana (RGGVY) and the $10 billion (Rs 50,000 crore) restructured - accelerated power distribution reforms program (R-APDRP) are generating lot of interest from Indian as well as foreign business houses.
Out of the $10 billion funding for R-APDRP, about $2 billion (Rs 10,000 crore) has been set aside for IT intiatives like setting up a statewide data center for each Indian state and centralizing all IT applications for power distribution utilities from these data centers.
In effect these programs are driving innovation, creating jobs and modernizing infrastructure across the country. All this has been happening silently in the background, as there is no single portal for power sector in India to share this information, views and news.
PowerGyan (http://www.powergyan.com), the power information portal tries, to fill this void by disseminating all kinds of information related to power sector including news, articles, organizations, products, services, people, projects, tenders, events, education, training, webinars, etc., PowerGyan will also offer online discussion boards and social networking features in the near future.
Promoted by a technocrat with over a decade of experience in the power industry, the portal promises to be a source of authentic information and an industry thought leader.
