Cork Cove Furniture Set Ablaze - MaineFurniture.com Launched

September 2nd fire was NOT an abandoned building as reported. Cork Cove Furniture's workshop and offices were destroyed in the fire. Mark McKelvey, owner of Cork Cove will start MaineFurniture.com out of the ashes to promote Maine's woodworkers.

PRLog - Sep. 8, 2009 - Cork Cove Furniture announced today the closing of its shop and business after the devastating fire which burned the shop down the morning of September 2nd.

“The collapse of the furniture market on top of the fire was just too much to handle” said Mark McKelvey founder of Cork Cove Furniture. The fire burned all the equipment and due to the downturned economy could not afford the insurance.
“This is a total loss.” said Mr. McKelvey. “everything in the shop was destroyed by the fire, water, and smoke. I’ve received a tremendous amount of support since the fire from family, friends and peers. The community has been very supportive. I would like to thank everyone for their help and will redesign this site to promote local furniture makers whom I have admired and learned from over the years. ”
Maine furniture makers produce the highest quality furniture and have skills which have been passed down through generations. “The history and quality of work found here in Maine is truly amazing.” Said Mr. McKelvey. “I plan on spending my time promoting the rich history and people behind the quality furniture made in Maine. I’m not the only one struggling during this economy and I’m planning on getting the word out using the Internet Marketing which I’ve learned over the past month while working with Hidden Equity.”
The site will capture video and content to document the history and workmanship of Maine carpenters and will be promoted Worldwide using the Web to increase awareness of Maine’s high quality furniture and cabinet makers.

“As devastating as this fire is to me emotionally and financially, I’m still very excited to tell this story. Thanks so much to all of my clients who have become friends and I hope to see you on my site once it launches later this fall.”

About Mark McKelvey
Mark founded Cork Cove Furniture in 2005 and made high quality furniture and cabinets. The business was doing well up until late 2007/early 2008, when Mark made cabinets for notable celebrities and made inroads into the New York market. The downturn in the economy in 2008 certainly made it difficult, but was able to make ends meet with referrals from existing customers and the New York client base.
