Today's Child Learning Centers to Host "Fund Education Now!" Rally

Today's Child and its partners will be hosting the "Fund Education Now!" rally in Sharon Hill, PA on Sept. 14, 2009 at 5:00pm

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Sep 08, 2009 – Who: Parents, teachers, administrators and other education advocates will meet in Sharon Hill at the main campus of Today’s Child Learning Centers, to share their support for the funding level proposed by Gov. Rendell. The “Fund Education Now” rally is being hosted by Today’s Child Learning Centers.

Speakers include:
Chris Ambrose –Today’s Child Learning Centers
JoAnn Weinberger – Center For Literacy

What: Parents of students, teachers, staff and other education advocates will share their experiences with state-funded education and voice their support for the governor’s proposed funding for education initiatives such as Pre-K Counts, Head Start Supplemental, Child Care Works, adult and youth literacy and others.

When: September 14, 2009, 5:00pm

Where: Today’s Child Learning Centers -- Main Campus, 235 Sharon Ave. Sharon Hill, PA 19079

Why: The purpose of the event is to support the funding levels proposed by Governor Rendell, and to encourage our legislators to pass a budget both quickly and fairly.

Research shows that young children who are exposed to high-quality education, starting with pre-K create a higher level of behavioral, emotional and cognitive development that increases their chances of advancing through school. They score better on standardized tests, have greater academic success, experience fewer grade retentions, need less special education remediation and are more likely to graduate from high school.

Successful schools have an impact not only on students and individuals, but also on the viability of communities, regions and the Commonwealth as a whole.  Educators and policymakers understand what schools need in order to be successful, but the missing piece is maintaining a commitment to Pennsylvania’s fair and predictable school funding formula and continuing to meet the state’s adequacy funding targets.

Today’s Child, along with its partners in this event are calling on Governor Rendell and the General Assembly to increase revenue in order to find more dollars to increase funding for education programs over previous levels in 2009-10.
