Celtic Princess Ceridwen of Iceni is beginning to have doubts about her upcoming marriage. Then she meets Marek, an Egyptian officer with the Roman 14th Legion. He sweeps her off her feet and they discover they share each other’s darkest desires.
Coming from vastly different cultures, Ceridwen and Marek find they have a lot in common and plan a life together once Marek finishes his term of duty. But war between their countries suddenly puts the two on opposing sides.
After the Roman Emperor Claudius is assassinated, the new emperor, Nero, declares Iceni a Roman province, bringing the two nations to war. Iceni destroys the Roman city of Londinium, killing 70,000 residents. Meanwhile, Marek and his outnumbered troops are the only Roman force left in Britannia.
