When an individual is ready to complete drug and alcohol residential treatment and go back home to their job, their family, and their life, it's imperative for them to have a strong, support system in place upon their arrival. They may need a Recovery Coach to bring one-on-one support home with them, who can be contacted by phone or email.
A Recovery Coach is a seasoned treatment professional that functions as a guide to those newly sober (or returning after a relapse). The Recovery Coach will meet with the client from weekly to several times per week to work on a variety of sobriety-related issues, including (but not limited to) the following:
* Identify areas that have presented or may present roadblocks to continued abstinence
* Facilitate the processes necessary to remain free from drugs and alcohol.
* Support the client through challenges arising in everyday activities. For some, this is done through several one-on-one sessions each week; some prefer telephone contact.
* Work with clients at any stage of recovery in the process of transitioning from sober living/treatment to their own home, or to regain their stability following recently relapsed.

Other services that close the gaps between treatment and recovery are Recovery Escorts, who that are professionals trained to help someone to get to treatment or back home.  When someone needs in-home, around-the-clock attendance, or attendance by a treatment professional a Recovery Companion may be the answer. These professionals help to provide a crucial service for those resistant to remaining abstinent, but who must do so due to legal, medical, family or contractual obligations. The Recovery Companion can help to reinforce the positive results of continued abstinence and remind the individual of the negative consequences of relapse. A Recovery Companion is particularly adept at running interference between the client and those who seek to provide drugs and/or alcohol to him or her. A Recovery Companion provides a sense of real companionship and camaraderie.

Now, if the individual is leaving treatment and going back home with his family, he would need a Recovery Coach for him/her self and a Family Recovery Specialist (FRS) for the family. The FRS specializes in helping the family to navigate through recovery for up to 12 months after the addicted individual enters treatment. It is known that in the process of recovery the addicted individual might relapse several times before achieving abstinence. The FRS would assist the family through the process and would help with interventions or a positive family interaction as needed. An FRS is best to have as soon as the family realizes the one they love has a problem or they can get an FRS after treatment. The FRS, is a family case manager, assisting in developing a family development plan, a positive interaction agreement, and a family action plan. The FRS might act as a liaison between the addicted individual’s treatment provider and the family’s therapist. The FRS also would encourage the family to take care of its recovery by attending Al-anon meetings and family counseling. The FRS might meet with the family in person, on the telephone, or electronically. Services  maybe charged on a flat rate or hourly. The FRS’s concern is always the family’s health and well-being. The FRS must develop a strong bond with the family and keep moving the family forward in its recovery. The FRS’s goal is to provide professional oversight and support to the family as it transitions through its recovery process. With such a comprehensive plan the family can restore its life and improve the quality of life for all of its members.
