Yellow pages, at thousands of dollars per month, handing out flyers door to door, a time consuming and tedious task, or hoping that friends and family would suddenly find their carpets unbearable to look upon and mercifully call for carpet cleaning.
The year 2009 represent a neo-renaissance of sorts. The world is going digital, and with it, carpet cleaners. Today, a website allows the dozens or potential prospects to select a cleaner easily. Loaded with information, the website affords the viewer the opportunity to view large quantities of information, find coupons and deals and preview the company before settling on a cleaner.
"It's great, really. Cheaper than Yellow Pages, and it allows me to spend as much time with a potential client as they need to make an informed decision," says John. He should know a good thing when it comes along, John went into business long ago and has weathered two recessions, a couple of wars, and the financial bubble burst that sent most of his competitiors under years ago.
"It's about advertising sure, but it's about being a real person too." John has had the same clients for so long that the infants who's cribs he had to move out of the way to clean under are now old enough to pack up and head to the dorms.
"Digital media is a great new thing. Easier to advertise, more people to reach, but if you're not someone who loves to clean carpets, who really likes people, it won't help in the long run."
