Antamedia, the company behind Print Manager, has found its print restriction program is becoming popular among existing clients, who are purchasing extra copies. They're installing it on their household computers, clamping down on their family's use of ink and paper.
Printer and ink cartridge manufacturers have come under fire recently for selling cheap printers that guzzle expensive ink, prompting a backlash and the growth of cartridge refill services.
Vladan Antanasijevic, founder of Antamedia, said "We know from supplying schools that children can be very wasteful of paper and ink but usually our clients are small to mid-range companies. Now we are getting calls from managers who install it at home. They want the same control of printing that they have at work"
For a big company with hundreds of employee the return on investment for such software, which costs $249, should be fast. Is it cost effective for a typical family though?
Vladan responded "It can be. Most home printers are ink jet designs, which are much more expensive per page than an industrial laser printer. Some clients claim their children can exhaust ink cartridges in a week, even less. The software stops arguments by setting and enforcing your rules automatically."
What about print happy spouses? "It works on them as well." he said.
