SAN DIEGO - The National Comedy Theatre will pass a major milestone in October, when it celebrates 10 years of performances in San Diego.  The show originally opened in October, 1999, and has been performed over 2500 times throughout its continual run in San Diego.

To commemorate the 10 year anniversary, there will be a series of special performances throughout October, commencing with an Old-Timer’s Weekend, featuring some of the original NCT players on October 9th & 10th.

The show expanded in 2005 to include another theater Off-Broadway in New York City, and recently added a third location in Phoenix in 2008.

Nationwide, the show has had almost 5000 performances, including overseas tours for our troops stationed in Iraq, Turkey, Egypt, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Holland, Djibouti and Saudi Arabia.

Similar in style to Drew Carey’s “Whose Line is it Anyway?” the National Comedy Theatre (NCT) is a high-octane improvisational comedy show based completely on audience suggestions.

Because the comedy is improvised, fans never see the same match twice.  Audience members are encouraged to yell out suggestions throughout the match, making for a unique show every performance.  And because the show is clean, it is appropriate for all audiences.

“I think the secret to our ongoing success is the fact that nobody told us that we don’t know what we’re doing,” quips Artistic Director and ‘Big Cheese” Gary Kramer.  “All of a sudden, it’s a decade later and we’re still rolling along.  Apparently, we don’t know when we’re supposed to quit.”

The show has been performed every Friday and Saturday night at their theater in Mission Hills since opening night, without skipping a week, and has expanded to include a College Team, a High School League, a new Sunday Company as well as public improv workshops.  “Sooner or later, we’re going to get this right,” says Kramer “Maybe by the time we turn 20 we’ll figure it out.”

The National Comedy Theatre performs every Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 and 9:45 p.m.  Tickets are $12 for students and seniors and $15 for adults.  For more information, you can check out the website at www.nationalcomedy.com.
