If you are a foreign national living in the UK as an economic migrant, and your command of the English language is not quite as fluent as it could be, what do you do?
Who do you turn to for the all important information which we all need to have in order to run our lives?
Well, a new website, funded by the European Social Fund, myUKinfo.com is where you’ll find all the answers.
Born out of the need for information from many migrant workers in East Anglia, It deals with every aspect of British life and bureaucracy which is enough to confuse a native, never mind someone newly arriving in the UK!
There are 8 principal pages of detailed information with click through links to government websites or further relevant information. If you need information on social housing, the page gives detailed information on the structure of social housing within the UK and links for further information to the Tenant Services Authority and Shelter.
All this information is currently available not only in English, but in Polish and Portuguese with Slovak, Lithuanian and Romanian about to be added.
The translation partner for myUKinfo.com is Language Connect, an ISO 9001-accredited translations company providing translation, interpreting and other foreign languages in over 120 different languages.
Hopefully, myUKinfo.com will demystify the complexities of the welfare state in the UK, as well as all other aspects of society here, from tax to transport and from lifestyle to culture.
It’s a much needed resource for anyone wanting to make a new life in Britain in 2009.
