Leeds indie-rock band CODEGO has added a musical twist to the Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for a local charity.
CODEGO, from Halifax, has added a special twist to the already gruelling challenge of trekking over 3,400 metres climbing Ben Nevis, Scotland, Scafell Pike in the Lake District and Mount Snowden, Wales.
The band will attempt to perform and record acoustic open-air gigs at the peak of each mountain in a bid to raise even more money for their chosen charity, Leeds Society for Deaf and Blind People.
Lead guitarist Sam Lawson, vocalist Lee Bray, bass player Matt Horrocks, drummer Danny Chambers and Alex Jones on keyboard all aim to complete the challenge in just 24 hours.
Sam Lawson, whose Mum works Leeds Society, said: “This is going to be one of the most challenging things any of us have ever done in our lives and performing at the top of each mountain will literally be quite breathtaking.
“Leeds Society is a fantastic charity and does a lot to help the thousands of people in the region with visual or hearing impairments and we just want to give something back.
“We’re taking a camera, our acoustic guitars and a few other musical instruments to rock out at the top of each mountain, in addition to climbing each one. We know it’ll be hard work, but so worth it.”
Rob Young, director of Leeds Society for Deaf and Blind People commented: “The challenge these young men have set themselves is quite impressive and will no doubt be an inspiration to other people. It’s refreshing to see young people doing something positive towards those who might be a little less fortunate in life and giving back to society. Their efforts are truly appreciated and the money raised will enrich so many lives.”
The band has pledged to send a free copy of their album to those who donate £10 or more, which is due to be released this Christmas.
The high-altitude gigs will be available to watch at http://www.myspace.com/
