The Society of Professional Journalists 2009 National Convention took place in Indianapolis over the last weekend in August. Hundreds of professionals and students, over 600 to be exact, flooded into the Westin to take advantage of educational sessions, networking opportunities and some good, clean fun. Delegates from professional and student chapters from around the United States also came with another purpose--to elect their national board.
Along with regional directors and the executive officers, delegates were asked to choose two student representatives to be the voice for student members. They chose between three candidates and elected Tara Puckey of Indiana and Andrew Seaman of Pennsylvania. The two new officers were sworn in on Saturday afternoon and began business with a board meeting the following day.
Puckey is also the owner of tara puckey freelance, which provides freelance writing, editing and project construction for various outlets nationwide. Her work can be seen in AmeriForce Publishing's publications and she is a regular contributor for Broadway Magazine out of New York. She specializes in military media, profiles and features and light marketing duties.
"I'm excited to see what Andrew and I can do for the student members of SPJ," said Puckey. "We have some really great ideas and can't wait to get started."
