Follow on Google News | The Mississippi School for Math & Science Stage Band & Choir tour lands at the SCHCThe Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation is thrilled to welcome the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science Stage Band & Choir on Friday, October 2 at 6:00pm.
The musical repertoire to be performed includes traditional Gospel favorites such as “Hush, Somebody’s Callin’ My Name” and “God’s Gonna’ Set This World on Fire”. Also on the program are blues and jazz standards like “Let the Good Times Roll”, “At a Dixieland Jazz Funeral”, “God Bless the Child” and “Sing, Sing, Sing”. During the musical performance, the 60’s class students will be projecting a video presentation including stills and video clips of significant people and places as it pertains to the program. Performances are scheduled in Vicksburg, Hattiesburg and Brookhaven. During the tour, students will make stops in Vicksburg, birthplace of Willie Dixon, Crystal Springs, birthplace of Tommy Johnson, Hazlehurst, birthplace of Robert Johnson, Port Gibson, home to the Rabbit Foot Minstrels and McComb, birthplace of Bo Diddley and Hattiesburg, home of historic Mobile Street and the Roots of Rock and Roll Blues marker. The objective of the tour is to bring the historical and cultural contributions of Mississippi to the world to life for the MSMS students and their audiences. It is also the school’s goal to help the students become educated, impassioned and informed ambassadors for our State. The program is under the direction of Dawn Barham, Performing Arts Director and Julie Heintz, Historical Content Director. The MSMS is located in Columbus, MS. The Center is a Mississippi Landmark property and is list on the National Register of Historic Places. It is formerly the St. Francis Xavier Convent and Academy and is one of the most architecturally and historically significant city blocks in downtown.
