The world was shocked two months ago after the untimely death of Michael Jackson, one of the planet's most moved and respected entertainers. The King of Pop has sold hundreds of millions of records worldwide and his signature Thriller album remains the biggest selling record in popular music history.
His death touched millions of people and television news networks the world over showed grieving fans paying their own respects. Now, a housewife from Warwick has decided to change her name by deed poll in honour of the iconic American singer.
Marina Jayne Hancock had made the decision to change her name earlier this year following her divorce six years ago. The Warwick housewife had always been a big Michael Jackson fan and when he died in June this year, Marina decided to include 'Jackson' in her name.
When approaching The Legal Deed Service to change her name, Marina thought that an appropriate tribute would be to change her name to Marina Jayne Michael Jackson on the late star's birthday. So, on August 29th she officially became Ms MJ Michael Jackson and is the first person to change her name to incorporate the star's moniker.
The new Marina Michael Jackson said, "I've only told my immediate family and friends so far and they all think it's a bit nutty but pretty cool too! My brother and sisters are big Michael Jackson fans as well and now that they are over the shock of the name change, they think it's a great choice!"
Jamie Jackson, Chief Executive of the Legal Deed Service said, "In the past we have had name changes both to highlight a topical issue and to pay homage to a celebrity. Marina's name change falls into both categories as it is a great tribute to a star that sadly passed away in his prime. This particular name change has even more significance than most however as it was undertaken on what would have been the fifty-first birthday of the American musical icon."
