Based on the novel, "Beneath the Cristo" is an epic feature film about love, betrayal and redemption. Matthew Merlot, an international rock star has everything: fame, fortune, a supermodel wife and son…and a drinking problem. When he awakes badly burned in an old gothic-styled hospital in Rio de Janeiro, a priest is called to read his last rites. With the priest's guidance, Matthew slowly pieces together the fragments of an incredible series of events that begins with the brutal murder of his wife, a murder for which he is blamed.
Desperate to clear his name, he travels across three continents in search of the murder weapon, a fabled relic known as the "Dagger of Adultery".
As his memory becomes clear we embark upon a journey through the back alleys of Prague, the shores of a deserted island, and into the arms of a beautiful Brazilian woman. His search takes him through the sophisticated night life of Rio, to one of the world's greatest spectacles, Carnival, an international Rave concert, and world-famous Copacabana beach filled with the "beautiful people."
Through it all, the statue of Christ looms in the background as though to tell him he is not alone in his quest. The conclusion to this multi-layered epic film shot in over one hundred locations will amaze and surprise the most sophisticated movie goers. Like "The Passion of Christ" or "The English Patient," "Beneath the Cristo" will most certainly be one of the "must-see" movies of 2009. First time director, Mario M. Milano of Rio, spent several years crafting this spiritual adventure love story. He is currently preparing "Beneath the Cristo, Part II", the second chapter of the feature film trilogy.
