Softron Media Services Announces MovieRecorder 2.0

Mac Based Capture Application Supports Single File Reference Movies for Edit-During-Ingest Pro Option Adds Proxy File Editing

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Sep 03, 2009 -
Softron Media Services® announced today that it will begin shipping MovieRecorder 2.0 at IBC in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.  MovieRecorder 2.0 is a major upgrade to Softron’s existing MovieRecorder application that is in use at television stations and postproduction facilities throughout the world.

MovieRecorder 2.0 is a Macintosh based multi-format, multiple input acquisition application that digitizes video into self-contained QuickTime reference movies that can be used to edit-during-ingest.  (Previous versions of MovieRecorder recorded separate audio and video files when capturing reference movies.) MovieRecorder 2.0 supports multiple SD and HD formats, either compressed or uncompressed.  It allows video clips being captured to be stored to multiple locations simultaneously. Ingests can be scheduled over time or can be manually triggered.  When capturing from multiple video inputs using multiple video cards on either the same or on different workstations, ingests can be monitored and controlled using MovieRecorder Control which is available to all users at no additional charge.

MovieRecorder 2.0 is simpler to set up than its predecessor.  It overcomes previous AFP server limitations of file size. It uses dynamic memory buffering which is less memory intensive when compressing incoming video streams.  MovieRecorder 2.0’s self-contained QuickTime reference movies can be used with applications such as Softron’s OnTheAir Video as well as third party applications such as Apple’s Final Cut Studio and Final Cut Server.
MovieRecorder 2.0’s Pro option now allows the capture of proxy clips.  These proxy clips are low bit rate versions of the actual material, significantly smaller in size and can be edited in Final Cut Pro. Editing on a proxy file is ideal for use on notebook computers or over local area networks. It also accelerates the rendering process and enables more real time editing. Edit-while-ingest also works with proxy files, which means that you can start editing in Final Cut Pro on your laptop on a Local Area Network, while it’s capturing. Later, work can be finalized on  a higher-end computer connected to an Xsan with High-Res files.  The Pro option also allows capture of metadata, the customization of metadata keys, and the batch capture from tape decks.

MovieRecorder is available at € 695 (US$ 1095.)  The Pro option retails for € 295 (US$ 450.)  Upgrades are available for all owners of MovieRecorder and MovieRecorder Pro.
The price to upgrade from MovieRecorder to MovieRecorder 2.0 or from MovieRecorder Pro to MovieRecorder 2.0 with the Pro option is  € 195 (US $ 250). Users can also upgrade from MovieRecorder to MovieRecorder 2.0 with the Pro option for € 395 (US$ 495.)  All purchases of MovieRecorder and MovieRecorder Pro since July 1, 2009 will be upgraded at no charge.
MovieRecorder 1.0 will still be available for download for existing version 1.0 users.
