I am shocked and saddened this latest crime wave on my Alma Maters, Clark Atlanta University (Class of 2004) and Spelman College (Class of 2001). My deepest sympathy goes out to the families of the victims. If elected mayor, I would implement a Campus Watch Program so this senseless violence does not occur again.
Campus Watch is a safety initiative focusing on the protection and security of students and college personnel. The program is uniquely tailored to fit the needs of each academic institution, which vary in size, number of students and physical layout. Campus Watch is also intended as a proactive strategy against incidents of school violence that have recently made headlines in other communities.
Atlanta Campus Watch will be modeled after Louisville Kentucky’s success program. Kentucky’s program, combined with their other efforts, contributes to them being ranked #5 in 2008 one of America’s top 100 safest cities.
