FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Sep 03, 2009 – There was once a time where only the really technical or wealthy would buy a SIM free device, whilst the majority would get a new mobile phone from one of the big network providers as they had the buying power and subsidised the cost of the handset from the money made on your contract.

However times are now changing and it is slowly becoming easier than ever to avoid being tied into a contract (unless you want to be) and actually get the device you want SIM free.

I have been using SIM FREE mobile devices for about 3-4 years.  Initially it is more expensive but now it is much cheaper. http://www.clove.co.uk/index.aspx

Most would think you have to pay more to get the device you want, often you do, but not always, as this cost can be subsidised by the savings on the contract.

Now I could write for days on how to haggle a good deal and the options you have, but that would get a bit boring.

Many are now on SIM only deals.  Why?

It is cheaper and you are not tied in for 18-24 months, just 30 days.  Now most networks do this, but O2 are pioneering the way with their O2 Simplicity package.

For £19.58 you can get 600 minutes, 1200 texts and unlimited data.

Most contracts would charge £35+ for this, averaging around £40.

That could be up to £480 a year extra and your tied in to contract and probably have a FREE handset, but is it the one you want? http://www.clove.co.uk/index.aspx

Go SIM FREE, you save this money and can put it to a device you actually want.  And what’s more, you want a different package, cancel your contract, you can every 30 days!

In addition should you change devices you get more money as they are not network locked or branded.

Now depending how proactive you are you can get good deals.

So here are a few tips and pointers.

•   Networks do not really like you using SIM free devices as they can’t control you so much, but you are well within your rights to have a SIM free device.
•   Actually get a contract you need.  Don’t pay over the odds for something you don’t use.  Why get a contract with a 1000 text allowanced if you send less than 10 a day?
•   Buying SIM free means you can use your device with any network provider
•   The average contract of £30 per month does have £100-£200 commission built into it – haggle you can get cash back – I often get and hear people getting £150 back.
•   You can not haggle on SIM only deals – they are fixed but generally at seriously reduced prices in comparison to contract.
•   If you are happy to be in contract then fine but you do not have the ease of changing your tariff as you do on SIM only deals.
•   If your contract is coming to an end, and you are happy with the service, still threaten to leave, you will get a discount!
•   Don’t haggle with the big networks directly in store.  Do it over the phone.  Go to their sales or customer retention department – they can offer better deals most of the time!
•   If you want a contract, try going to Phones4U.  They deal with all the operators and have a better understanding of all the tariffs and have better negotiation power.
•   Be prepared to walk away.  Any salesman hates to loose a sale.  Put down the offer you want and see if they can meet it.  If they can’t, threaten to walk if you’re not happy; and do it; they will often soon change their tune. Do be aware through, there are limits to what hey can actually offer.

The most important thing is to sign up to something you are happy with.  Have the deal you want and not what others do.
