A symbol of power and danger, the dragon has always been an irresistible object of attraction. Dragon tattoos symbolize luck, freedom, and power. According to the historical records, men tattooed the images of tattoos upon their body to denote power or protection, as men were considered the guardians of the society and the family.
Some people want dragon tattoos done on their body to follow their customs and traditions, while others want to look unique by flaunting their tattooed body part. Just as there are different types of dragons, there are different types of dragon tattoos as well: eastern, western, Japanese and Chinese tattoos. All of them are unique in their own terms.
In Bangalore, India, tattoo artist Vijay Karthik has created a gigantic dragon spread over the back of his client Franz Balazs.
A dragon tattoo rarely comes any bigger. The artist worked five days on the outsize living canvas. “I spent five hours a day to complete it,” said Mr. Karthik at a press conference there three days ago. He said Mr. Balazs, a professional deep-sea diving coach from Germany, had been touring India on his bike for the past five months.
Displaying the tattoo with evident pride, Mr. Balazs told reporters, “I have always wanted a really special tattoo. I have been to several places in India but decided to get the tattoo done by Karthik as he impressed me the most.”
And not only are dragon tattoos art, they're literature too. This summer, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo has become one of August's hottest books, igniting “must read” lists from Seattle to Bangalore.
Tattoo is a page-turning a thriller by the late Stieg Larsson, a Swedish journalist and human-rights activist who smoked himself to death at age 50. The plot features Lisbeth Salander, a lone-wolf computer hacker with a tortured past who has yet to meet a database she can't hack.
"They're selling like hot cakes in India, South Africa, and around the world," says The Times of India. If you can get your hands on a copy, do it. You won't be able to put it down. Plans to film the thriller are in the works.
