Julia Kuot will showcase her animal friendly version of one of Alexander McQueen’s fall 09’ dresses at the Annual, nation-wide Cool vs Cruel design competition on September 17, 2009 . The local round of competition will be held at the Art Institute of Vancouver Renfrew Campus.
The Cool vs Cruel competition challenges Art Institute students from across North America to redesign a garment from one of 4 major, international, pro-fur designers using synthetic alternatives. Each student must design, sketch and construct at least one garment to be judged. Ms Kuot has chosen to recreate a black leather dress with fur sleeves-the look is dominatrix biker meets Upper East Side!
There will be students from 40 Art Institute schools from all over North America competing for one grand prize. The grand prize is an all expense paid trip to New York for the ceremony and a 5 day internship with an acclaimed designer (TBA) so the stakes are pretty high.
The Art Institute of Vancouver on Renfrew and Hebb St will be the place to be on September 17, 2009 as 26 design students try to out design each other for a trip of a lifetime!
