Breitling were established in 1884 and produce high quality watches made entirely of Swiss components. In the 1940s a circular slide rule was attached to the bezel of the chronograph watches which the company manufactured for airline pilots. This became the Navitimer model which has been one of the company’s signature products ever since.
Lee Niles, Managing Director of The Branded Watch Co, which offers both new and pre-owned luxury watches by Rolex and Tag Heuer, said, “The Navitimer has long been an iconic model in the Breitling range. It has evolved since its introduction in the 1940s in two main ways. Firstly, the twelve hour dial was replaced by a twenty four hour dial in the early 1960s at the request of American astronauts who needed this as there was no distinction between day and night in space travel. It was also in the mid 1960s that the three smaller subdials were incorporated in the Navitimer and these remain to this day.”
The Branded Watch Company offer nine distinctive models in their Navitimer range. These are all water resistant to at least thirty metres and come in a variety of designs and casings. The A23322 has a stainless steel case, black dial with silver subdials, a leather strap and comes with either a pin buckle or a deployment clasp.
Another popular choice is the D23322 which comes in a stunning steel and eighteen carat gold case. This model has either a two-tone Navitimer bracelet and fliplock clasp or a leather strap with tang buckle. Both have a self-winding chronograph and are just over four centimetres in size.
Mr Niles from the firm who offer Cartier watches and Tag Heuer watches added, “The Navitimer is a classic design and has been a stylish and enduring choice for nearly seventy years. Whilst the range has increased in size over recent years many people still love the traditional Navitimer model with its black dials, white subdials, steel casing and trademark circular slide rule.”
