Cambridge Design Partnership’s Gmax Go system is selected for The Tour of Britain

Sept. 2, 2009 - PRLog -- Using its GPS technology platform in combination with Ordnance Survey maps provided by Satmap Systems, Cambridge Design Partnership has created a free-to-use service to allow anyone to follow the event’s progress as it moves through each of its eight stages.  Online access to this service allows a wider audience participation in this exciting event and it is anticipated that thousands of spectators will visit the Tour of Britain website as a result.

“Modern GPS tracking technology is revolutionising the appeal of long distance sports such as The Tour of Britain to many spectators.  It allows enthusiasts, teams and organisers to stay engaged with the live progress of the race from anywhere with an internet connection,” explained Will Bradley, the Project Leader for Gmax Go.  “Online participation in sports such as cycling, marathons, sailing, rally driving and endurance horse racing is growing, attracting larger and more diverse audiences with each event.  As well as benefitting the fans, it also allows event organisers to attract and provide greater value to their sponsors by raising the profile of the sport, and generating more traffic to their website.  We are delighted to be selected by The Tour of Britain to be their technology partner - it represents the most significant public trial of the Gmax Go tracking system to date.”

A combination of familiar venues and regions, as well as new exciting additions will mark the route of this year's Tour of Britain, the first stage will begin with a Grand Depart in Scunthorpe, and continues through the North East, Scotland, North West, South West with a spectacular final day of racing, as riders tackle the iconic London circuit.  The Tour of Britain route will take the riders through areas of spectacular countryside.  It is anticipated that this year’s race will draw the largest number of spectators yet.

There will also be coverage of the race on the UK’s ITV4 television channel at 7pm each night, with viewers able to enjoy an hour of highlights of each stage.
