Lead actress Hallee Hirsh, Becky Smith and actor Nicholas Downs promoted the film via TV, radio and newspaper interviews leading up to the screening.  Hirsh, (You've Got Mail, Flight 29 Down, 90210 - and perhaps best known as Rachel Green in E.R.) plays Kate, a confused 16- year-old trying to deal with her sexual awakening in a small town.  Downs (Pearl Harbor, Constantine, The Girl Next Door, Cold Case) plays Bobby, an over oppressive small town cop with quite the chip on his shoulder, mad about the fact that his mother (Theresa Russell) won't sell the ice cream stand she recently inherited from her mother and use it for more lucrative purposes like a paint ball court or storage sheds.  Theresa Russell (Spiderman III, The Black Widow) plays Kate's boss and mother substitute.

In the romantic comedy Kate’s angst about her sexual inexperience drives a comic quest for love and understanding on a birthday to end all birthdays. Before the end of the night, Kate and her best friend Darby will discover more about love than most 16-year-olds can imagine.

The Daily Iowan says “16 to Life” emanates “a feeling of realism” and calls Hirsh’s performance, “spectacular”. Theresa Russell is described as “pitch-perfect” – and Mandy Musgrave’s performance as Kate’s sexually precocious friend Darby, as “stellar”.

This is the first feature film from Emmy-nominated writer/director Becky Smith (Queer Eye for the Straight Guy). “16 to Life” also stars Jaime Gomez (Nash Bridges, Training Day), Emily Foxler (Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Bones) Carson Kressley (Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, How To Look Good Naked), Mandy Musgrave (South of Nowhere) and Shiloh Fernandez (Gossip Girl, The United States of Tara).

“16 to Life” premiered nationally at the Los Angeles Method Fest earlier this year, where it also played to a standing room only crowd, received five nominations and won Best Film (Audience Award) and Best Supporting Actor (Theresa Russell).

“16 to Life” is scheduled to play next at the Kansas International Film Festival on Sept. 19th, and the Napa/Sonoma Wine Country Film Festival on Sept. 26th, where a tribute to
Theresa Russell is tentatively planned.

Nicholas Downs is planning to be in attendance for both festivals.
