DFW Humane Society Will Have Adoptable Pets At Polo For Paws Charity Event

Kim Snider, organizer of Polo for Paws, is pleased to announce the DFW Humane Society of Irving will have adoptable pets available throughout the day, at the Polo for Paws benefit on October 24th, 2009.

Sept. 1, 2009 - PRLog -- The economy doesn't just affect people. When it comes to feeding the family or feeding the family pet, sometimes hard decisions have to be made. In tight times, a family may feel they have no other choice but to surrender their sweet animal to a local shelter, or worse, drop it off on the side of the road.  The struggling economy is creating a double whammy for animal care groups: more animals need help at a time fewer people can afford  to give.

Kim Snider, organizer of Polo for Paws, is pleased to announce the DFW Humane Society of Irving will have adoptable pets available throughout the day, at the Polo for Paws benefit on October 24th, 2009.  Snider says, "I am thrilled that DFW Humane Society of Irving is going to be at Polo for Paws. We want to not only raise money but  also find forever homes for as many animals as possible. What better place than Polo for Paws?"

Polo for Paws is a benefit for Best Friends Animal Society being held Saturday, October 24, 2009 at the Dallas Polo Club. Gates will open at noon. Polo school will begin at 12:30pm where you can try your hand at riding a horse and swinging a mallet . The feature match will begin at 2:00pm.  Half time will include flying frisbee dogs and TC Cappel's Dancing Dogs.  Additional activities are scheduled throughout the day. For more information and tickets, check out the Polo For Paws website at http://www.squidoo.com/poloforpaws.

DFW Humane Society of Irving is a non-profit shelter that was founded in 1967 and is located in Irving, Texas.  Their idea of a humane society is heart-warming, “We are a no-kill shelter dedicated to giving homeless and unwanted pets a second chance in life through adoption.”  They currently house 80-100 animals at any given time and take in strays and owner released pets throughout the DFW Metroplex.  Like the majority of animal shelters, they do not receive any state or federal funding and depend solely on caring people for their survival. In fall 2009, the DFW Humane Society of Irving will be the first non-profit shelter in the state of Texas to collaborate with a city-run animal facility. Pets available from DFW Humane Society of Irving can be seen on their web site  at www.dfwhumane.com and also on air every Friday at KHYI, 95.3FM “The Range” with Brett Dillon between 11:00am and 11:30am for a Pet of the Week.

Best Friends has a simple philosophy: kindness to animals builds a better world for all of us.  The sanctuary, in Kanab, Utah, is home to about 2000 dogs, cats, horses, birds and other animals - both wild and domestic - who come from shelters and rescue groups around the country and the world for special care they can only receive at Best Friends. Best Friends acts as a sort of "Red Cross for animals", dispatching teams of volunteers worldwide wherever there is an over-whelming situation. Teams have been sent to help in hoarding situations, closed down puppy mills, natural disasters, and war.  Best Friends also fought for the lives of Michael Vick's dogs. The court agreed, sending many of them to Best Friends where some have been rehabilitated and adopted.  Others of Vick's dogs, who will not fully recover from the trauma, will have a forever home at Best Friends and have been named The Vicktory Dogs. You may have seen some of them on National Geographic's hit show, "Dogtown."
