The story begins when four unprincipled colleagues, eager to attract funding, set up an unauthorized medical trial with an experimental drug and use a hapless stroke victim as a guinea pig.
Something goes terribly wrong and the patient in Comeuppance nearly dies as a result of their treatment. But his resilience and probing combat the self-serving interaction between the plotters, and they unknowingly engineer their own self-destruction.
This quick-paced tale opens in the University city of Dunedin, New Zealand. It then moves to Oxford, England, before returning to the picturesque West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand for its stunning conclusion.
