The Sport Of Kings Crowns a New Team

Polo Club of Colts Neck, NJ ends their inaugural summer season with success

Sept. 1, 2009 - PRLog -- (Colts Neck, NJ) Polo Club of Colts Neck scored big points with their Polo Team, SLS JET, a family team of father and sons.

Having spent several years playing with Colts Neck Polo, the Garber family, Simon, Lina, and their two oldest sons Shaun 16, Jeffrey 15, decided to create their own Polo Club and help elevate the sport to a new level here in Colts Neck. Recruiting a nationally recognized player, Gerardo "Toto" Collardin of San Saba Polo Team in Texas, to join the team, audiences are offered the opportunity to see The Sport of Kings played at its best.  The Garber's other children, daughter Enette 12, son Tyler 11 and youngest son Shane 10 months old, watch the matches with pride and excitement and aspire to play as well.

Averaging 40 matches a season from May through September, SLS JET travels throughout the Northeast seeking challenging matches from other teams in Long Island, Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey. Most matches offer spectators the opportunity to enjoy light fare, refreshments and cocktails under a grand tent overlooking the playing field. Others are encouraged to tailgate with family and friends to create their own private viewing and noshing venue. Spectators are asked to join in the tradition of Divot Stomping at the halfway point in the match, where guests go onto the field and help "stomp" the grass divot back into the soil, this helps maintains the field and allows fans to be part of the sport and tradition of Polo.

Following the strict guidelines and rules of Polo, and with keeping the welfare of the horses in mind, players must change horses during the course of a game.  As a result, The Garber family constructed a beautiful stable and training enclave on their estate in Colts Neck to house and raise 20 of their own Polo horses, and at times an additional 10 to make up the 30 horses they have for a team total. Gleaming silver trailers help transport their horses to other matches along with their annual 6 month stay in Palm Beach, Florida, where the matches are intensified with packed crowds, national teams competing and energy in the air unmatched by any other sport.

Polo Club of Colts Neck is finishing up their inaugural season with some impressive finishes and matches. SLS JET beat one of Maryland's top teams with 6 goals, hosting and beating a Pennsylvania team sponsored by Manhattan Motors, by a single point, and making it to the finals in the coveted Brandywine Tournament in Pennsylvania and graciously losing by 1 point. With the wet month of June '09 in the Northeast, many of the Long Island matches were washed out.

Building on this year and planning for 2010, Polo Club of Colts Neck will begin again in June with impressive sponsorships in development for the season. Creating a campaign to make the game of Polo more accessible to the public, the Garber family can help make Colts Neck, NJ one of the premier Polo destinations in the Northeast.

Stay tuned for their 2010 winter season in Palm Beach/Wellington, Florida.
