Follow on Google News | WECA volunteers mobilize for Westchester Cycle Clubs’ 2009 Golden AppleWestchester Cycle Club (WCC) calls on Westchester Emergency Communications Association (WECA) to handle all communications needs for this year’s Golden Apple bike ride.
By: WECA The WECA Amateur Radio operators, also known as Hams or Ham radio operators, are all volunteers belonging to Westchester Emergency Communication Association with close to 200 active members from Westchester and the surrounding area. Throughout the year WECA members volunteer to assist with public service events like; The Multiple Sclerosis Tappan Zee Bike tour, and The American Diabetes Association Walk. The WECA Hams use these events as “training” WECA’s Public Service Director Robert Kantor said “This is a great opportunity for Hams to come out and show the community what our capabilities are. Most people in the community don’t realize what it takes in logistics and communications to assist with an event this large and spread out across the county. We become the eyes and ears for the events directors and apprise them of the conditions and status of riders throughout the course and to make sure rest areas are well supplied.” Robert Kantor, WECA’s Public Service Director, will be available to answer any questions about this event at the Goldens Bridge Railroad Station from 6:30am till the event concludes. For more information on WECA including: membership, Ham Radio, and other Public Service events, check out our web site at http://www.weca.org. # # # Non-profit orginazation to promote Amateur Radio, emergency communications, and assist county government and other orginazations with their communication needs.
