The "golden years" are not very golden any more. These are now the years that are frought with financial troubles, indifferent or even hostile attitudes of their offspring, and a growing dependency for facilities such as assisted living centers, nursing homes, or group living homes.
The most recent bit of bad news comes from the Social Security Administration and the many agencies that are supposed to be knowledgeable about what the Social Security Administration has up its sleeve. There will be no raise in SSI benefits in 2010. This is deadly news, since millions upon millions of.older Americans are totally dependent upon SSI for their income. The key factor in Social Security income is the Cost Of Living Adjustment or COLA. Forecasters say that in 2010, the COLA will be eliminated, thereby impacting the frail budgets of most of the senior citizens that are on SSI benefit packages.
Bob Carper Consulting Services is issuing a warning to all older Americans. Scammers have been quick to seize the opportunity provided by these latest turn of events. Millions of “baby boomers” are now at risk, particularly those that have not budgeted for their retirement years. By placing their complete financial dependency upon SSI and other pension plans, they and their families are now at risk against the hordes of scammers that will stop at nothing to rip off these older folk.
What's worse....these scammers are very slick professional thieves that know what they are doing and are very quick to make things happen. Their victims are older Americans that cannot think on their feet. Worse still, the 50 plus generation may be inclined to believe what is put in front of them and will accept anything that says they will repair your damaged credit or will fix a crisis in your bank or credit card account.
Scammers can be stopped in their tracks, and we may even get them arrested. Here are steps to follow if you receive any threatening e-mail, letter, or phone call.
With Social Security now forecasting that COLA for 2010 and 2011 may be zero, scammers are banking on the fact you are going to be afraid of losing your savings or having your income reduced b or cut off entitely. Fear is the scammers chief weapon.
So, when you get a threatening e-mail or phone call, THINK !!! DO NOT PANIC !! First, verify that the message is legitimate and is coming from one of your financial institutions and is addressed to you personally. Anything other than this is an indication of a scam threat.
Next, call your bank or financial institution immediately. Tell them what you've received and what they want you to do. Under no circumstances should you reply to thescam letter or take any action on your own. Turn the whole thing over to your bank or credit card company.
If you follow these basic steps, the problem will go away.
