A catchy video about contraception that features two men in a friendly argument is one of seven such videos that has attracted more than 120,000 views in only two years.
The videos, each of which is only about a minute long, are so popular that a search on YouTube for the word contraception shows one of the videos fifth from the top.
In one short video, viewed 41,000 times, one man represents contraception, and the other Natural Family Planning. “My users can have sex anytime they want to,” the man representing contraception says glibly. “So do mine,” says the NFP man in an ironic twist.
Another video features a man running away from four men with t-shirts labeled divorce, abortion, infertility, misogyny, “Are these your friends?” he is asked. When he says no, the first man protests, “They go where ever you go. They’ve been with you for 40 years,” he says, referring to the 40 years that the birth control pill has been on the market.
The videos, produced by Catholic seminarians in Omaha, NE, have inspired both compliments and arguments among many viewers, judging from the more than 700 responses overall. The comments range in topics from population statistics to whether abortion causes cancer. Many comments are positive, such as one person who said, “I love the NFP videos! It presents natural family planning in a way that makes sense!!”
