IAPMO goes green by publishing codes online.

Aug. 31, 2009 - PRLog -- Scottsdale, Arizona. — The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) is providing a green alternative to code users.  In the past, Uniform Mechanical and Uniform Plumbing Codes were only available in print format.  IAPMO is now providing online access to its most current Uniform Plumbing and Mechanical Codes as well as prior editions.

Twenty-four hours a day, every single day of the year, plumbing and mechanical professionals can access Uniform Plumbing and Mechanical Codes using an interactive IAPMO web-based platform powered by citation®.

Users can review codes and leave annotations, pictures, site notes, or links to third-party documents and web sites.  This unique means of accessing IAPMO’s codes enables the preservation of institutional knowledge and research where it matters most — within the codes themselves.  By reviewing data on the Internet and leaving digital notes, users can further green practices by reducing paper needs.

Dynamic portals ensure codes are automatically updated whenever changes occur, enabling users to always have the most up-to-date information at their fingertips.  Through IAPMO’s robust web portal, code enforcers, design professionals, and contractors can obtain the codes, standards, and regulations necessary to competently use, apply, and/or enforce the following codes:

• 2009 Uniform Plumbing Code and Uniform Mechanical Code
• 2006 Uniform Plumbing Code and Uniform Mechanical Code
• 2003 Uniform Plumbing Code and Uniform Mechanical Code
• 2007 California Plumbing Code and California Mechanical Code
• 2008 Uniform Plumbing Code – India

“This exciting new venture officially brings codes and standards into the information technology age in a way not previously available from IAPMO,” said Terry Leppellere, IAPMO director of Member Services. “We relied solely on paper in the past, but now all of the codes, standards and regulations — and the most advanced tools created to access them — are now only a click away.”

The green benefits of accessing IAPMO codes on the Internet are twofold.  New books are not produced and old books are not relegated to landfills.   “It’s a win – win situation for everyone,” says Dean Brewer, CEO Citation Technologies.
