Aug. 31, 2009 - PRLog -- If you are interested in either earning a law degree, a business school graduate degree, or both, two conferences coming this fall provide the information, resources, and contacts you need to be successful – and they are both specifically designed with the aspiring and current Black professional in mind.  On the weekend of Friday, November 6, 2009 and Saturday, November 7, 2009, Houston, the fourth largest city in the country and one of the most racially diverse, will be host to two national Black pre-professional conferences.  Both events will take place at The University of Houston-Downtown located in the heart of downtown in Houston, Texas.  Each conference offers amazing “insider” information and unparalleled networking opportunities.

This year’s first National Black Pre-Professional and Graduate Weekend features The Fifth Annual National Black Pre-Law Admissions & Preparation Conference and Law School Recruitment Fair.  This event provides everything future lawyers need to know to navigate the admissions process, financial aid, the Law School Admission Test (LSAT), law school selection, preparation programs, the law school learning and academic experience, student life, diversity issues, the bar exam, preparation programs, the job search, and career options.

Those specifically interested in earning an MBA can participate in The Inaugural National Black Pre-MBA Conference and Business School Recruitment Fair.  A comprehensive offering of panels and workshops provide insightful discussion on all of the major topics of interest and importance to aspiring MBAs including pre-requisites for non-business majors, the admissions process, financial aid, the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) and Graduate Record Examination (GRE), business school choice, the value of the MBA, the MBA student learning experience, preparation resources, Black entrepreneurship, and career paths.  Each event will feature a recruitment fair attracting numerous law and business schools from across the country.

Dynamic keynote speakers will provide motivational addresses at both events.  Top entertainment attorney and CEO of the Black Broadcasting Network Ricky Anderson, Daryl K. Washington, founder of Black Legal Issues and the Unequal Justice Legal and Educational Fund, Sonia Laird, J.D., M.B.A., founder and chair of The Lawyers' Council on Social Justice and The National Public Awareness Agency, and Oswald J. Scott, Jr., judge, author, motivational speaker, and life coach, will present keynote speeches for the Pre-Law Conference.  Special guests include Tiffany Munsell, Chairperson of the National Black Law Students Association and Justice Carolyn Wright, a distinguished jurist on the Texas Fifth District Court of Appeals.  Successful business school graduate Ernest M. Fountain, MBA, the CEO of Fountain of Financial Services LLC and author of “To Achieve the American Dream” will address pre-business school participants.  Additional speakers, panelists, and workshop presenters will soon be announced.

Both events provide informative panel discussions and empowering workshop sessions, a complimentary continental breakfast each day, refreshment breaks, and most importantly, critical networking activities and opportunities.  There will be beautifully catered combined networking events on both evenings including An All-Black Affair on Friday Night, where Black attire is requested but not required, and A Chocolate Affair on Saturday night, which will showcase decadent chocolate desserts.  Immediately preceding these events will be power sessions including a seminar on power networking presented by Crystal Washington of Black-Market Exchange and a seminar on personal brand management by Reginald Rhodes, owner of i10media.com and author of “The Most Important Brand in the World: YOU!.”

Those interested in attending are encouraged to sign up for a nominal fee, or even cross-register for both if they are considering pursuing either or both the J.D. and MBA degrees, or simply want to learn more about their possible options before making a definitive decision on either.

Come take part in this wonderful opportunity to further explore what it takes to be successful in business and law school in an open, warm, friendly, and non-threatening environment with other aspiring and current Black professionals who want to see you succeed and us succeed collectively.  Everyone is welcome including high school students, college students, college graduates, advisors and mentors, career changers, working professionals, parents and supporters.

Enrollment is limited due to space constraints, and tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Register today to secure your seat!
