Aug. 30, 2009 - PRLog -- If you’re in the job market today you already know how difficult it is to even get a response from your applications, let alone an interview or an actual job. If you’ve already tried all the approaches you know and are ready to learn how to position yourself as a TOP candidate in ANY job market (including today’s BRUTAL one), then you need to investigate a new eBook: “Headhunter” Hiring Secrets: How to Position Yourself as a TOP Candidate in ANY Job Market!, written and published to help today’s job seekers by veteran Metro Atlanta “headhunter” and career coach Skip Freeman.

The 250-page eBook takes a comprehensive, from beginning to end, approach to showing job seekers the things they must do—and not do!—if they want to position themselves as TOP candidates in any job market, including today’s quite challenging one.

Freeman is the President and Chief Executive Officer of The HTW (“Hire to Win”) group headquartered in the Atlanta suburb of Lawrenceville, GA. He founded the executive recruiting firm in 2003 and it has grown to be among the top 200 offices (out of 1,100) in the Management Recruiters International network of franchised recruiting firms.

The fundamental premise in “Headhunter” Hiring Secrets is that there really are TWO sets of “rules” in the hiring game: The rules job seekers think hiring companies play by, and the rules the hiring companies actually play by.

Freeman points out that job seekers tend to think in terms of doing (and saying) those things that will get them included in the pool of candidates being considered for a job. Hiring companies, however, think in terms of what they can do to exclude as many candidates as possible, as quickly as possible, in order to get to the candidate (or candidates) ultimately selected for any given position(s) they are trying to fill.

“Until job seekers learn, and then put into practice, the rules the hiring companies actually play by,” Freeman says, “they will spend a whole lot of unproductive, largely wasted time and effort when it comes to finding a new job—especially today.

“Typically, the first thing job seekers do when they find themselves unemployed, or about to be unemployed, is to ‘hit the job boards’ on the Internet, and send out hundreds of ‘generic,’ ‘one-size-fits-all’ résumés for positions they may or not even be qualified for,” Freeman says. “In the recruiting business we refer to this technique and approach as ‘spray and pray.’ Rarely does this approach produce any meaningful results.”

Freeman said that job seekers can only expect to receive a one to two percent response—good, bad or indifferent—using the job boards approach as their principal method of seeking a new job. Moreover, he pointed out that hiring companies fill about one to two percent of all their advertised open positions with candidates coming from the job boards.

“Those aren’t very good odds in any job market,” Freeman said. “In a job market such as the one we’re experiencing today, they are totally unacceptable odds.”

While quite a few books have recently been published to help job seekers in the worst job market in over 25 years, many, if not most, cover just one or two aspects of a total job search, such as how to write a résumé, how to interview well, etc., Freeman said.

“In ‘Headhunter’ Hiring Secrets, I cover virtually every single step involved in a successful job search, ” he said. “To the very best of my knowledge, my book is the only one recently published that takes such a comprehensive, all-encompassing approach to job hunting.”

Here are just a few of the “secrets” revealed in Freeman’s eBook:

-- Beware of the “shadows on the wall” syndrome, i.e., saying or doing things during interviews that will strike “fear” in the hearts of hiring companies (much as “shadows on the wall” frighten some children at bedtime) and make them select a “safer” candidate. Example: When asked why she would even consider moving from Chicago to Denver for a new job, a candidate responded with, “My husband and I are having trouble and I want to move as far away from him as I can get!” (Now, who wouldn’t want to hire someone with that motive for seeking a new job?! Obviously, a “wrong” answer because she was quickly eliminated from further consideration because of that answer!)

--How to answer (and not to answer) the “Gotcha’!” Questions. Example: “Tell me about the worst boss you ever had.”

--How “Tell me about yourself” certainly does NOT mean “Tell me about yourself”!

--How to deal with the toughest interview question—the one about salary.

While geared primarily toward the job seeker with a college degree, Freeman said that the general principles covered in “Headhunter” Hiring Secrets apply to job seekers at virtually all levels.

“Obviously, the competition is much more fierce for the higher-paying positions,” he said, “but, learning how to position oneself in order not to be excluded from the pool of candidates early on, can pay dividends to virtually any job seeker.”
