Massive Turtle nesting on Nicaragua

On Sunday August 23 started a massive turtle (lepidochelys oliveacea) nesting at Playa la Flor. Marena, organization that manage playa La Flor, has count that more than 4,000 mothers turtles have arrived to lay their eggs the first two nights.

We are please to let you know on Sunday August 23 started a massive paslama turtle (lepidochelys oliveacea) nesting at Playa la Flor. This massive arrival is expected to last 4 days. Marena, organization that manage playa La Flor, has count that more than 4,000 mothers turtles have arrived to lay their eggs the first two nights.

To visit the wild life refuge La Flor, there are some basics rules to guarantee the protection of mother turtles and nests left over from previous nesting.

The rules are:
1- To go at night, small groups of no more than 5 person most be organized.

2- The use of white flashlight is not allowed. The flashlight most be cover with red cellophane paper and only one flashlight per group is permitted.

3- The use of camera with flashes is not allowed, especially when turtles are arriving to the beach. Light from flashes disturb them inhibit tem to lay eggs.

4- Do as little noise as possible.

5- Walk on the lower site of the beach to avoid stepping on turtle nest on the sand.

6- Always obey guides instructions.

We recommend taking drinking water, insect repellent and jacket in case it rain.
