For many people, the very mention of Argentina brings about images of tango. The dance originated in the working-class slums of Buenos Aires in the late 1800´s where hundreds of thousands of European immigrants lived, primarily Italian, French and Spanish. The dance and music of tango is a fusion of the various forms and styles of the immigrants living in Buenos Aires at the time. In the early 20th century, dancers and orchestras from Buenos Aires travelled to Europe where the first tango craze took place in Paris. Throughout the 20th century, it travelled all across Europe, the United States and other countries to become the world famous dance it is today.
