Sluder's Neuralgia, Cluster Headaches And Autonomic Trigeminal Neuralgias.

The July issue of Cephalgia has an article comparing cluster headaches and Sluder's Neuralgia which concludes they are different entities. If Sluder's Neuralgia is a Trigeminal Autonomic Cephalgia Neuromuscular Dentistry may be an ideal treatment.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Aug. 28, 2009 - Neuromuscular Dentistry allows normalization of the trigeminal nervous system.  Correction of noxious input from the mouth allows normalization of the Trigeminal Nervous System.  Chronic Daily Headaches and Migraines are also Trigeminally innervated and respond well  to Neuromuscular Dental Treatment.

This study by Oomen KP, van Wijck AJ, Hordijk GJ, de Ru JA should offer hope to patients for a drug free treatment to avert the problem.  Neuromuscular dentistry is frequently helpful with cluster headaches as well.  A Spenopalatine block is frequently used by trained neuromuscular dentists to evaluate the autonomic component of the Trigeminal Nerve as a cause of pain and can frequently used as a easy treatment modality.

Dr Ira L Shapira is a Neuromuscular Dentist and a Diplomate of the Academy of Pain Management in Chicago who has recently created a new website http://www.ihateheadaches.org that is designed to help headache patients find solutions.  The site covers all types of headaches and explains Neuromuscular Dentistry and how it is used to eliminate many serious medical problems.

The term "THE GREAT IMPOSTER" has often been used to describe TMJ disorders because patients frequently come in with a host of varied complaints such as migraine and cluster headache.  TMJ stands for the  TemporoMandibular Joint but most of the problems  are not specifically related to the joint problems but effects on the trigeminal nervous system.

The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) considers sleep apnea and many types of headaches related to sleep apnea to be TMJ disorders.  Cardiovascular and Sleep Related Consequences of TMJ Disorders is an excellent report  available @ http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/meetings/workshops/tmj_wksp.pdf and should be read by any patient suffering rom sleep or chronic pain disorder.  Dr Shapira also created the extremely popular site: http://www.ihatecpap.com

SUFFER NO MORE: DEALING WITH THE GREAT IMPOSTER  is an excellent Sleep and Health Journal article discussing headaches and TMJ disorders and can be found @ http://www.sleepandhealth.com/story/suffer-no-more-dealing-great-impostor

The abstract of this new study is include below for your convenience.

Sluder's neuralgia: a trigeminal autonomic cephalalgia?

Oomen KPQ, van Wijck AJM, Hordijk GJ & de Ru JA. Sluder's neuralgia: a trigeminal autonomic cephalalgia? Cephalalgia 2009. London. ISSN 0333-1024The objective was to formulate distinctive criteria to substantiate our opinion that Sluder's neuralgia and cluster headache are two different clinical entities. A systematic review was carried out of all available, original literature on Sluder's neuralgia. Pain characteristics, periodicity and associated signs and symptoms were studied and listed according to frequency of appearance. Eleven articles on Sluder's neuralgia were evaluated. Several differences between Sluder's neuralgia and cluster headache became evident. Based on described symptoms, new criteria for Sluder's neuralgia could be formulated. Sluder's neuralgia and cluster headache could possibly be regarded as two different headache syndromes, and Sluder's neuralgia could be a trigeminal autonomic cephalalgia.
