Pop! Goes the Icon, the Las Vegas-based, boutique comic publisher launched earlier this year, is searching for up-and-coming talent for a new, ongoing comic book series, tentatively titled "Omega Comics Presents."
In the vein of predecessors such as Dark Horse Comics' "Dark Horse Presents" and DC Comics' "New Talent Showcase," "Omega Comics Presents" will offer publication space for unknown and underexposed writers and artists. The quarterly, black-and-white series will feature three 8-to-10 page stories per issue, both standalone and serialized. Slated for late 2009/early 2010 release, "Omega Comics Presents" will be available in both print and downloadable editions.
Publisher and Editor Pj Perez assures that while a major goal of the anthology series to expose the talent from its home base of Las Vegas, "Omega Comics Presents" is also open to showcasing talent from around the globe. Interested creators and creative teams are strongly encouraged to pitch concepts for the series via e-mail to editor@popgoestheicon.com. More information on submissions can be found at www.popgoestheicon.com.
Meanwhile, Pop! Goes the Icon's debut series, the online comic serial "The Utopian," will see its first print collection debut at the Vegas Valley Comic Book Festival, held Nov. 7 at the Clark County Library. Perez, who also writes and draws the strip, will be on hand to field questions about Pop! Goes the Icon and sign copies of "The Utopian."
