WASHINGTON DC – The 2009 Capital Swimsuit Contest will be held Labor Day Weekend on Saturday, September 5th, 2009 at FUR Nightclub in Washington DC. Doors will open at 5:45 PM for the Red Carpet - VIP/Media Party and the swimsuit competition will start at 7:00 PM. The Capital Swimsuit Competition (www.CapitalSwimsuitContest.com)
Contestants in the 2009 competition will have the opportunity to win a prize package which is focused on shortening the time it normally takes an aspiring model to become a professional working talent. The contest emphasizes hard work, fitness, and the importance of exposure. This year, the competition will offer a grand prize package valued at more than $5,000. The winner will receive an all expense paid 5 day trip to San Jose del Cabo, Mexico to the UjENA Swimwear Jam, and have the opportunity to compete for over a $100,000 in cash and prizes. Also she will receive a fashion spread in a SuperModels Unlimited Magazine shot by notable fashion photographer Tim Coburn, a 1 year membership to Results Gym, plus numerous other prizes including a 1 year membership to The Actors Center which is a DC-based non-profit supporting actors and actresses.
The Capital Swimsuit Contest helped launch the career of Shennekia Grimshaw who was the 2008 winner. Since winning, Shennekia has been published in national magazines, appeared on several notable websites, hosted numerous events including a casting for VH1 in Philadelphia, and made appearances in multiple music videos. In addition, she has had the opportunity to network with industry professionals from across the country. Shennekia is currently pursuing a career in becoming an on-screen entertainment correspondent.
Photographers based in the Mid-Atlantic area also have the opportunity to win a prize package from Penn Camera which is a local retailer of photography equipment. Models, stylists, makeup artists and other industry professionals can nominate the photographer they feel shot the best Swimsuit Model Photo of 2009. The top photo will be chosen by the judges prior to the event and the winner will be announced at the competition.
