Telford, PA – Almost everyone likes movies. Some people LOVE movies. But nobody likes the prices. Things seem to be getting out of hand, with many new release DVDs costing between $20 and $30—even for so-called “Gospel” films! The reason for these seemingly outrageous prices? High production costs. Even “low budget” movies can cost millions of dollars to produce and the only way to recoup expenses is to charge high prices, which can put the movies out of reach for some people.
A brand new movie production startup, Unblinded Media (UM), is questioning this bloated paradigm of higher and higher costs—especially for movies that contain the message of the Gospel. UM recently announced on its website that it is in preproduction for a new action/drama/
“We have a message we want to share with the world,” says Randy Hulshizer, MS, MA, Unblinded Media owner and writer. “It doesn’t seem fair that only those who can ‘pay the price’ should be able to see and hear the message. Jesus said, ‘Freely you have received. Freely give!’ and that’s what we intend to do.”
The only way UM can achieve its goal is to keep production costs low. The company will film the movie using an all volunteer cast and crew, and will assemble and build as much equipment as possible. In addition, Hulshizer says that UM doesn’t plan to make a profit on the movie. Instead, they plan to license the movie in such a way that viewers can freely copy and give the movie away to friends.
“It’s not about the money,” Hulshizer says. “In fact, we’ll probably lose money. And that’s O.K. We just want to make a really cool movie that lots of people will enjoy—FREE!
The company plans to begin filming in summer 2010 and hopes to have the movie ready for distribution no later than summer 2011.
