During this fragile time in a young woman’s life, the close relationship with her mother becomes an inspiration to all she is and will be.

The connection between mother and child is the one of the most sacred and intimate bonds one can experience. A mother/daughter bond is especially important, but can weaken as the daughter grows to become her own woman, separate from the woman to whom she was once so close. The teenage years can jeopardize that bond, but through open and honest communication, the relationship can be salvaged and strengthened.

The poems in Mother May I? celebrate the bonding of mother and daughter through inspiration, humor, tragedy, and communication. Mother and daughter share generational conversations and explore topics such as sex, politics, and race, which both divide and unite them. When shared with mothers and daughters from all kinds of backgrounds, this book will help them reach a point in their relationship where they find that bond again and again.
