ETSI has established a collaboration with the recently-created Global ICT Standardization Forum for India (GISFI). The agreement, in the form of a Letter of Intent, foresees a sharing of best practices and identification of areas for co-operation in standardization work. The organizations will also work together on promotional activities of mutual interest. The Letter of Intent paves the way to future agreements which may result in even closer co-operation.
The Letter of Intent was signed on 10 August 2009 by Adrian Scrase, ETSI's Vice President for International Partnership Projects, and Professor Ramjee Prasad, GISFI Founding Chairman. The signing took place during GISFI's Inaugural Workshop in New Delhi in the presence of Shri Sachin Pilot, Honourable Minister of State for Communications and IT for India. The workshop was GISFI's first major public event during which the new forum and its standardization vision were presented to Indian industry.
Both GISFI and ETSI share several high priority topics for standardization, including the "Internet of Things", convergent technologies, future radio access technologies and "green" issues. The new collaboration between the two organizations is expected to contribute a valuable sharing of expertise in these challenging domains, resulting in relevant, high quality standards for world-wide application.
