Value added distributor Security IP is offering a new e-mail encryption product developed by SEPPmail, a Switzerland-
Sending encrypted e-mails in compliance with legal regulations, mitigation of legal risks or to protect private information has always been an expensive and complicated matter. To allow a secure communication, complex software had to be installed on both the sender’s and the recipient’s computer―or one had to make do with a less than secure Webmail solution.
Sitting in the network between your company’s e-mail server and firewall, SEPPmail Secure E-Mail Gateway eliminates these problems by requiring no software to be installed so providing a user-transparent solution with two-factor authentication for additional security against phishing leaving no e-mails stored on the gateway. For ease of use and simplicity the recipient passwords can either be ‘recipient self generated’ on the SEPPmail gateway or automatically generated and sent to recipients’ mobile phones via SMS or sent to the sender for them to forward on via phone.
Commenting on the new product, Security IP’s Steve Cornish said: “Solutions for securing e-mail communications have been available for a few years (PGP, certificates, X509, S/MIME…), but because of their installation complexity and poor interoperability, few companies have decided to use these solutions to communicate with their partners. A major benefit of SEPPmail Secure E-Mail Gateway is its use of several encryption standards, allowing you to adapt the solution for your different customers who might be using a different technology or none at all."
SEPPmail Secure E-Mail Gateway also allows for domain encryption. This means that all e-mails sent between two companies that have a SEPPmail device are automatically secured by the appliance. This mechanism is totally automatic and requires no input from the users, thus avoiding any costly training usually required after the installation of a new device. SEPPmail Secure E-Mail Gateway guarantees a professional, cost-efficient and fit-for-the-
How SEPPmail Secure Gateway works:
- You send your 'confidentially' marked emails as usual with your mail program (e.g. Microsoft Outlook).
- SEPPmail generates a password which is sent back to you.
- You announce this password to the receiver of your e-mails, either by telephone, SMS or Telefax.
- The e-mail is automatically encrypted by SEPPmail in the background.
- The receiver receives an e-mail with the information and a request to enter a password.
- After examination of the input the message is displayed decrypted and can be stored in the mail program as usual.
SEPPmail is available in three different models. SEPPmail 500 starts at £1452 and protects up to 50 users, SEPPmail 1000 rises to £2178 and protects 500 users, and SEPPmail 3000 costs £5830 and protects an unlimited number of users. Prices includes 2 year a warranty. SEPPmail VM is also available as a virtual server for VMWare. In addition there is a per encryption user license cost (not every email user needs to send encrypted emails).
